Polar Night

Polar Night

“Where’d you get that ring?” Colin asked.
“It has been in my family since long before memory. It is to be worn only during the time of kaamos, or what is known in your language as “polar night”—the time without sun. Strange spirits take advantage of this time to roam the earth and make mischief. Men take to the bottle and beat their wives, who beat their children in revenge. Dogs howl in the night and restlessness enters men’s souls. On the thirty-third day of the kaamos, whoever wears this ring can capture the ears of the gods, who will hear the soul’s most secret wish and make it true.”
Finnish moonshine, the Tarot, and Rock n’ Roll–my short story Polar Night is included premiere issue of Dark River Press Magazine along with works by Brian Lumley, Amanda Norman, and MORE!

Update: It appears that as with far too many publications these days, Dark River is now defunct. Goal: To get this short story into another publication soon–Ahti lives!
